On March 12, 13 and 14 I will be going to DC to talk with our legislators. Our focus will be on removing the current “therapy cap” so more people can continue therapy after suffering a spinal cord injury. The bill we are focused on is S.253. It’s brilliant in it’s simplicity- permanently repealing caps for physician prescribed physical, speech and occupational therapies. It has 36 co-sponsors.
You may ask, “Why should I care?” Because in a blink of an eye everything can change & someday you or a loved one’s recovery will rely on the passing of this bill. You can read it here:
To raise awareness Kay Ledson has been walking across America for the past six months to raise money to fund therapy programs for people with paralysis. Her son Josh suffered a spinal cord injury June of 2000 resulting in a diagnosis of a C6 C7 quadriplegic. Josh was told he would never walk again and 4 ½ months later josh walked out of the hospital. Most of you know my story. I was also told I would never use my hands or walk and today I am doing both. I am now able to stand for 2 1/2 hours and walk 58 feet.
Kay left San Diego September 22, 2017 and will end her walk, entitled Warrior Momz Walk, on March 12 2018. After 7,000,000 steps we will meet Kay & walk together into Washington DC to deliver this message about ending therapy caps and making proven therapies more available to all!
